Fresh Marinara Sauce on a Plate

This classic marinara sauce is a simple yet flavorful tomato sauce perfect for pasta, pizza, and more. Made with fresh ingredients, it’s a delicious and versatile staple for any kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  2. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper.
  3. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook for at least 30 minutes, or up to 1 hour, stirring occasionally, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. Stir in fresh basil before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a tablespoon of tomato paste along with the crushed tomatoes. Serve over your favorite pasta, use as a pizza sauce, or dip for garlic bread.
